It’s been a while since I last blogged, but I’ve decided to begin again, and what better subject to start with than New Year’s resolutions.

As we near the end of 2016, people’s thoughts are turning to Christmas and how they will be celebrating. Will it be the same way as they have always done, or are they going to set up a new tradition?

After that, 1st January 2017 will loom very quickly and people’s thoughts will turn to any New Year’s resolutions they will want to make.

It was thought that the Babylonians were the first to make New Year’s resolutions around 4,000 years ago. The website ‘Ancient Origins’ give a very good history behind how New Year’s resolutions first began. You can read about it here.

These days, resolutions come in many different forms. Some people want to quit smoking, lose weight, eat less junk food, some want to start an exercise program, become debt free, do more charity work/ volunteering.

They can be goals you want to accomplish over a short period or set them over a longer period.

Setting these goals, seem to come easy to people, but how many follow through and achieve?

Have you always set up a New Year’s resolution and then after two or three weeks, you give up, get bored or fed up?

Would you want to do something different this year?

  1. Make your resolution public – by that I mean tell your family or friends.
  2. Enlist other people you know who all want to work towards the same goal. You then have support as you work together.
  3. Contact a Life Coach. I have worked with many people who start off with a goal they thought they wanted to work with, but whilst investigating their motivations and getting under their skin, the real goal is revealed.
  4. Work on your goal every day.
  5. Write down your achievement in a diary, or start journaling about it (useful to read back on your progress).

However, you do it, best of luck.
